AiP has won the contract for Nishkam High School, Birmingham, our first exclusively vegetarian – and egg free – school.
Ofsted-outstanding Nishkam High school is part of the Nishkam School Trust group and is a multi-cultural and multi-faith school with a Sikh background, hence the requirement for menus to be both vegetarian and egg-free.
AiP recently took over the contract after many months of menu planning and development. The new menu features at least one traditional Sikh meal a week such as Rajma with rice or Potato and Aubergine Curry. AiP has also looked at Japanese, African, Greek and Italian cultures with strong vegetarian offerings for inspiration in order to keep the menu fresh and not use processed vegetarian dishes – often full of salt and sugar. Dishes include Tofu and Vegetable Ramen, Herb crusted Macaroni Cheese and Vegetarian Pesto-Roasted Vegetable Kebabs with Flat Bread.
We’ve had to replicate the slightly complicated logistics of the previous catering partner where food is plated up and then served to the pupils. The word ’Nishkam’ means selflessness, giving without an expectation of reward, and the school encourages both its staff and pupils to serve the plated hot food to others.
